About the area

Location! Location! Location! That's most important where you are, well the Gaiforce One Houseboat is situated in just about the best and nicest location in Amsterdam. In the very heart of the 18th century old city-centre. If you look outside you have the feeling you find yourself in a 18th century oil painting. All around you there are 3 to 400 year old canal-houses and warehouses. It can't get better than that! It's amazing!

The houseboat is located on the canal-belt in THE JORDAAN, which used to be the poorest area of Amsterdam in the olden days, but is now the most trendy and favoured area by locals and tourists. There is a maze of narrow streets, with many lovely restaurants, pubs and quaint shops. On almost every corner you will find an café with an outdoor terrace, where you can enjoy a drink while watching the hustle and bustle of life on the canals.

In the 17th/18th century Amsterdam was a thriving trading post where ships brought their ware from all over the world to be stored in the warehouses of The Brouwersgracht. These warehouses you still see today and from your window! when staying on The Guest-Houseboat, these are now converted into very popular luxury and trendy loft apartments, sought after by locals and ex-pats.

Apart from the beauty of the area, the houseboat is ideally located for your visits to many of the important sights and a mere 10 minutes walk from the Central Station, would you want to travel outside of Amsterdam to for instance, The Hague (40 minutes by train), Haarlem (15 minutes), Rotterdam(50 minutes) or the airport ( 15 minutes) even the beach is just 20 minutes by train.

So you see... LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!!!

    Great houseboat Show original

The houseboat is very comfortably furnished and clean. On the small terrace you can sit comfortably, feed the ducks and seagulls or just enjoy the view or people. In the evening when it is dark, the water reflects in the whole bedroom... very romantic! Opposite the houseboat is a pub where you can eat a croissant and drink a coffee in the morning. Next door is a Saturday market. The center is within walking distance and the area has a lot to offer. Patrizia is very friendly. All in all, the houseboat can only be recommended.

Hello Patricia, we had very nice days in Amsterdam. The houseboat is really very central. However, we were very appalled by the hygienic condition. For the money paid for a final cleaning, we did not get the impression that the houseboat is cleaned regularly. There were cobwebs everywhere, even at the entrance to the house. The towels were stained. Overall, the houseboat looked neglected. The closet was not usable, as there was hardly any space and blankets were thrown in the closet. According to the description and the price we did not expect that! It is a shame, as the location and surroundings were very good. But again we would not choose the houseboat, as there is no relationship between price and performance. Kerstin and Silke

    REPLY FROM THE HOST

    Hello Silke and Kirstin,

I am very sorry that the condition of the boat was disappointing to you and that the boat was not clean enough.

My regular cleaning lady was on vacation and I had hired a temporary cleaning lady who was clearly not on the level of my regular cleaning lady. I have never had complaints about theirs as my previous reviews always have 5 stars. Of course, this is not an excuse and shouldn't have happened! I sincerely apologize for this.

You always have a lot of problems with spiders on the water, much more so than in a home. Unfortunately, this is difficult to avoid.
    We will do our best.
    Kind regards,
    Patricia

    A really nice stay

We loved staying at Patricia’s houseboat! It was in an amazing location - a relatively quiet spot, but very close to the busier parts of Amsterdam. The houseboat was great and although small, was equipped with everything we needed. There was a minor issue with the shower when we arrived, but Patricia got right onto it and it was fixed very quickly. She was really great at communicating with us. As is mentioned in the ad, there is currently construction on the canal, right outside the houseboat. This does take away from the view unfortunately, but the noise wasn’t too much of a bother, as we were out most of the days, but sometimes construction noises started before 8am. Something to consider when booking, but wasn’t a major issue for us. Overall, we had a fantastic stay, and will certainly be staying here when we return to Amsterdam.
